Well, did it?
I was out yesterday, and it felt almost, well, springlike, but only if you ignore the windproof tights, the 2 base layers, thermal top and windstopper gilet. Having said that, at times it was warm, although descents were definitely chilly.
New bike is all built up, and rode turbo intervals on it last week, all felt good, including the Rotor rings (Q-Rings). I have used these all last season and whether I produce 'more power' is debatable, but i certainly 'feel' like i can stay on top of a gear better. I put some on Sarahs bike too and she seems to be enjoying them. Vittoria Open corsa cx tyres - love em, 25s are soooooooo comfy :) wont fit on p4 though for training :(

a month!
so, a month since the last post!
at the end of january i had quite an exciting trip to Portugal with Cervelo www.cervelo.com . If you now me you'll know i love the bikes, so to go over there, to the hotel which the cervelo test team go to for spring training was great. some good classroom stuff with engineers (heard about the new ultralight SQ6) and the marketing guys, plus gerard vroomen. Best though was riding......whilst friends were 'skating around' in freezing conditions, on slippery roads, we were on dry roads, in short gloves, and no tights or thermal jackets....sweeeeeet :) AND, we were able to ride with some of the CTT women.
Otherwise, working, which has been all good, and a bike upgrade - watch this space.
Sarah spent last weekend at the Triathlon show at Sandown, working for/with her sponsor helping to sell ZOOT products.
Now we are in Spain, at Chris and Rays, near Calpe. The same Calpe which has been host to....Garmin, The Shack and Contadors bunch (the pictures on cyclingnews show Alberto on the climb we went over today).
Few more days of riding here....fabulous.

i'm back!
Since Christmas, I have had, in no particular order, tooth/gum infection, some bug which made it seem the world was passing through me, in one direction or the other, ad a chest infection. I now have drugs. NOT the ones to make me faster, higher, stronger, but the opposite. The ones that kill all the crap in my body and actually make me go S L O W :(
Good side is that it's january not june, so still time to actually get fit.

Eddie would go
It looks like 90+% certain that 'the Eddie' http://http//live.quiksilver.com/2009/eddie will happen this week, monday, tuesday, wednesday.
The Eddie is the annual Big Wave surf contest on the North shore of Oahu, at Waimea bay, in celebration of the life of Eddie Aikau.
The contest doesn't have a set date, just a 'somewhere between day (a) and day (b)' as the conditions are what controls the running of the contest. Here in E'bo, if it gets a little bit blowy and choppy on the beach, out comes the red flags so the wusses don't have to stop sunbathing and do some work - On the North Shore, there are just advisories not to go into the heavy surf. http://www.surfline.com/surf-report/waimea-bay-hawaii_4755/ as well as looking at the large live surf at waimea, look at the other beaches and there are some videos on the right side of the page, including an Eddie one. Eddie was one of the first lifeguards to work Waimea, and died trying to help the others on the Polynesian sailing vessel Hokule'a survive.
The Eddie only happens if the surf is 20ft+ as they measure in Hawai'i, which is kinda 25ft+ anywhere else (measured from a different place). Contestants are invited, and for many of them, an invite to 'the Eddie' is Willy Wonkas Golden Ticket - even regulars like Kelly Slater put all else aside for the event.
Read the book 'Eddie would go', watch the videos on the Quiksilver link, and maybe have a think about folk who risk themselves to keep others alive -

by the beard of Zeus!
Sundays 50 mile TT was the hardest 50 i've ridden! bloomin' marshes, nowhere for us little 'uns to hide from the wind, and at times i wondered if i was actually moving forward, surprised to come away with a 2:03 (which is pants), but more disappointed (as was sarah, when i came home empty handed) that there was none of last years excellent date slice on offer at the HQ :(
